THE SWITCH CAME COMPLETE WITH THE WIRING HARNESS WHICH WAS NOT NECESSARY IN MY CASE SINCE MINE WAS STILL GOOD. Cruise control switch replacement
The membrane covering my cruise control switches,on my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport, had deteriorated. The Ford dealer proudly announced he could replace them for $230.00. I found them at Amazon for $53.00. Four days later armed with a screwdriver, needle nose pliers and an 8mm socketand a 12 wrench for the battery, and 20 minutes I had the new switches installed. They were great, work as they should and I did the happy dance.

Exact Factory Correct Replacement
Switches are an exact replacement for my 1996 Ford Ranger and they nclude the wires. Although some reviewers pointed out that you can replace the switch alone by releasing the wiring from them, my wires were pretty degraded. If you need to replace the wiring too, then the easiest way is to pull the steering wheel. Disconnect the battery, wait at least 10 minutes, then pop the plugs on the sides of the steering wheel. Remove the nuts underneath and the airbag module comes right off. Set it aside, remove the nut holding the wheel (!) and use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. The new switches and wiring require no modification and fit like a glove. They also work perfectly and make your truck look "like new." The only criticism I have of them is that the backlighting is pretty dim, but I think the originals weren't much brighter. The price was very good (best I found), and it included free shipping. If your switches are cracking and falling apart then you should buy...

Product Description

Works fine but connector is a hassle
This OEM switch works fine and does not take much time to install. There *is* a learning curve to figure out how to disconnect the wiring harness if you only want to swap out the button packs. The harness connectors are L-shaped with a lip on the bottom front end. This lip prevents the connectors from being pulled out. As another reviewer mentioned, use a knife or small screwdriver to unplug the wiring harness. Slide the knife under the connector and gently push the connector up while pulling it out. The other alternative is to get a steering wheel puller and install the complete switch pack and wiring harness.The new switch works without issue. It's not clear why the Ford engineers chose this connector design, though.
